NO RESPECT (1987)

During the downtime in SMEGMA when the band was down to a three-piece and basically inactive, Robbie was keen to get his own band up n running. As he kindly lent his skills to SMEGMA, I was quite happy to step up and help out on bass and vocals for his band.

We recruited two young guitarists Brett Nash, and Pete “Seeger” on lead and rhythm guitar respectively.  Brett was only 15 or 16 and was a fan of heavy metal and already quite an accomplished guitarist.

We practised a set that included some originals and also some covers, and played a few shows under the name “No Respect”, an obvious linkage to the previous “No Offence” lineup.

Somehow I managed to convince Bartletts Club Tavern that we a touring band “direct from Kings Cross” and we were paid $285 for a single show, unbelievable money as we usually ran at a loss whenever we played as SMEGMA.

We also played a party somewhere in North Rockhampton for free beer, and we disbanded the group once we had Dick Dale back in SMEGMA, and things were starting to take off there for us.
